This is the place to come for rumors about Richard, and whether or not there's any truth to them. Now, these tidbits of information are found all around the Internet, either on message boards or discovered through some creative sleuthing. (Read: A lot of search engines, and some interesting results.)
If you have a rumor and would like to submit it, feel free to do so by clicking here.
And now... The rumors!
#1. Richard played in a band at 'Diesel' with musician Claire Wyndham. [source]
True or False? TRUE! Claire herself was gracious enough to inform RBO that, yes, Richard did play guitar during a couple of her band's performances in between his roles in "Boyband" and "Vin." To quote:
"Rich played guitar for me at a couple of gigs last year in between projects. He is a very talented musician as well as an actor."
#2. Richard is currently starring in a short film called Good Mourning. Good Mourning is directed by Australian director Sam Parisi and will be completed by July of this year.
More information: " Sam is a thoroughly intelligent, hawkish director who only embarks on
projects if he has a strong vision. Seeing as all three of us were at
school and schoolies together I can honestly say I believe this one is
true." - Chris Thurston
True or False? TRUE! I received confirmation that "Good Mourning" is a film that Richard worked on prior to filming Power Rangers . Upon completion of production for PR, Richard and Sam Parisi had some pickups to do to complete it. The movie is currently in post-production.
#3. An RBO visitor (whose e-mail I deleted by accident after I read it - it was a mass inbox cleaning and I realized it after I hit "empty trash") informed me that he read somewhere that Richard had portrayed a serial rapist in an episode of the Australian drama "Water Rats," and that the (and I quote) "controversial nude scene" led to his getting a role on Power Rangers.
More information: I did some research and found that, on Richard's Wikipedia page [version 06/05/2006], someone added this:
One of his first television appearances was on the Australian drama 'Water Rats' as a serial rapist. The contriversial nude scene possibly landed him his higher profile role in Power Rangers.
"Water Rats" ended in 2001. I edited that out of Wikipedia and sought out the person who put that in, since Richard would've only been 16 in 2001, making him too young to have a "controversial nude scene" as a serial rapist in any television show. Further research led to a clarification of this rumor...
True or False? A little of both, really. One of Richard's roles did involve some nudity, but it wasn't on "Water Rats." It was his role as Darcy Worth in "White Collar Blue." To summarize:
Darcy swiped a drug that was used for date-rape, and he and his friend used it on a girl at the party. Darcy and his friend had relations with the girl and left her in the field, but Darcy's friend went back later. After, he left her face-down in the field, where she suffocated and eventually died. The friend got caught because he didn't delete the pictures he'd taken from his mobile phone. Darcy's involvement comes when the police embarrased him into admitting that he had sex with the victim, but didn't technically rape her. The DNA test (hair samples) is where the slight nudity comes into play.
Whether or not this led to being cast as Xander is up in the air, though I believe that part to be false.
#4. Richard will return in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive for a one- or two-episode revival of his character, Xander.
True or False? TRUE! Here is the thread on RangerBoard with pictoral evidence. Richard is returning alongside former Ranger actors Johnny Yong Bosch (Adam, MMPR2 through Space), Sally Martin (Tori, PRNS/PRDT), Emma Lahana (Kira, PRDT/PRSPD), and perennial fan-favorite Matt Austin (Bridge, PRSPD - Green, Blue, and now Red). It's an interesting mix of Rangers, that's for sure. Details about the plotline of the episodes are sketchy at best at this point.
